THE OPPORTUNITY

The York Catholic Distict Shool Board (YCDSB) was looking to create a model for staff development in the area of SMART product classroom integration. The project goal was to prepare a critical mass of teachers who use SMART technology effectively in their classrooms to accelerate learning for our students, using technology rich resources, higher order thinking skills, and curriculum integration.

THE ADVANCED SOLUTION

The York Catholic District School Board partnering with SMART Technologies and assisted by Advanced was looking to create a model for staff development in the area of SMART product classroom integration. The project goal was to prepare a critical mass of teachers who use SMART technology effectively in their classrooms to accelerate learning for our students, using technology rich resources, higher order thinking skills, and curriculum integration.

The York Catholic District School Board used a mentor-trainer model that was based on research and standards to build local capacity. SMART’s education consultant provided best practices on effective technology integration.

Through this process, York Catholic District School Board took current teachers with a passion for technology integration to a new level, providing them with the skills, tactics and strategies to effectively be SMART educational mentors. They in turn would provide training and support to the staff at their school and to other local schools. They would be looked to for innovative integration strategies within their area of expertise.

SMART education mentors received extensive training and resources in order to promote effective integration of SMART technology products. Advanced was excited to be part of the implementation of this project with the YCDSB.

SMART Educational Mentor (EM) Project Goals:

  • SMART EMs will attain the skill, tactics and strategies to support school board teachers with the effective implementation of SMART products within the classroom

  • YCDSB will have SMART EMs who are fully prepared to deliver SMART product professional development to school board educators
