ABOUT LAURENTIAN UNIVERSITY

Incorporated in 1960, Laurentian University is a mid-sized, bilingual university located within Greater Sudbury in the Province of Ontario. The school has more than 9,000 full-time and part-time students and is one of only 2 bilingual universities in Canada. Laurentian has a significant Native student population and is attracting a growing number of international students.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Laurentian required an expert AV partner to provide lecture capture software and associated technical services within classrooms and presentation spaces throughout the campus.

THE ADVANCED SOLUTION

Advanced partnered with Sonic Foundry, developer of the world’s most-trusted video management platform for academic, enterprise and event webcasting, to design an innovative education solution for Laurentian. Through the use of Sonic Foundry software and server, the University was able to conduct lecture capture, event webcasting and knowledge management to enhance meetings and special events and improve training.

Working with both Sonic Foundry and University staff, Advanced set-up an innovative media site from which webcasts could be accessed. With audio and video recording capabilities, the state-of-the-art software and AV equipment enabled users to capture lectures and store them on a server, allowing for access at a later time for review by students and staff.

The recorded lectures and course lessons could now be compiled to build a digital video library to promote quality distance learning and post-lecture review. Laurentian was also able to distribute, manage and acquire analytics of all lectures and presentations, facilitating improved learning outcomes.

Advanced also supplied all associated AV equipment including projectors, document cameras and other audiovisual accessories to support an effective, collaborative education strategy.
