Room 1 - Technology Information Seminar
Engaging and motivating the 21st century student requires innovative educators employing advanced teaching strategies that use the technology, which surrounds students in their daily lives.
Our Discovery Series seminar is a half-day presentation that delves into the Power and Potential of technology as a learning tool to provide a multimedia learning environment that addresses the needs of all learners.
Topics include:
- Using SMART boards to add multimedia and interactivity to classes
- Interactive student response systems and data driven decision making
- How document cameras create better understanding for students
- Classroom Audio systems , student success and voice fatigue
Join us for an engaging look at how technology is transforming teaching and learning in the 21st century classroom.
Room 2 - Discovery Product Showcase
In the Product Showcase area, you have the opportunity to experience in a hands on environment the latest educational technology including: SMART Board Interactive Whiteboards, the revolutionary new SMART Table, the SMART Response System or a range of data projectors and document cameras.
Sessions run concurrently in themorning and afternoon. Attend a seminar in the morning and check out the showcase in the afternoon. Or attend only one, depending on your needs or schedule.
This is a k-12 event both for existing SMART Board users as well as any educator looking for strategies and information on how to best integrate technology into the classroom.
Education Consultants
John Palbom, Certified SMART Trainer
Each of the sessions will be lead by a special member of the Advanced Team, John Palbom, who has first hand experience not only training educators on technology, but also in tying technology to curriculum and the Ontario standards. John, a teacher for 10 years with the Trillium board and now an Education Consultant for Advanced, has spent many years providing professional development to educators, the Ministry of Education, as well as being a Curriculum Consultant for a period of time.
Karen Brooks Nelson, Certified SMART Trainer
Karen Brooks Nelson who taught all grades from kindergarten to grade 12 also worked for Western University as an instructor in Computers in Education. She was a member of the committee that advised the Ministry of Education on software purchases for Ontario schools. During the last seven years, she was employed as an Educational Technology Consultant in Wellington Catholic DSB, where she helped teachers to use technology to meet Ministry expectations. Karen can help you be creative in your use of SMART technologies in the classroom.
