ABOUT ST. JOSEPH’S HOSPITAL AND THE MENTAL HEALTH UNIT
Founded over 120 years ago, St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton has grown into a multi-site, tertiary, academic health science centre delivering regionalized patient care and engaged in ongoing research and teaching. Affiliated with Hamilton`s McMaster University, St. Joseph’s is committed to improving the quality of life within the community it serves through the provision of integrated health services, ongoing medical research and the development of internationally-recognized programs.
St. Joseph’s was looking for a modern and unique way to review and discuss client files with medical staff within the Mental Health Unit which included doctors, ward clerks and nurses. The hospital wanted a portable system, both highly interactive and collaborative, that could be used for both group therapy sessions and staff communication.
THE ADVANCED SOLUTION
To connect morning and afternoon staff within the Unit and help them work collaboratively on patient file reviews, Advanced installed a SMART Board interactive whiteboard. The digital whiteboard allows clinic staff, doctors and nurses to share and discuss patient information within a group setting, making it easier to prepare the next shift of caregivers with the specific needs of patients for the day.
The interactive whiteboard, which nurtures and promotes enhanced employee collaboration, is now an indispensable communication tool for the Hospital, replacing the outdated method of whiteboard and dry erase markers previously being used. Patient information is now stored within an Excel spreadsheet, which is then easily viewed on the SMART Board. New notes can be added and saved directly to the file, enabling medical staff to easily exchange ideas and information that may be critical to a patient`s care. The SMART Board helped St. Joseph`s to create a completely connected workplace.
Advanced also provided a SMART Board interactive whiteboard on a mobile stand, which the Hospital uses in group therapy sessions to facilitate discussions and participant interaction. St. Joseph’s has found the new collaborative solution to be extremely effective and is looking forward to increasing ongoing collaboration through the addition of several more SMART Boards for their new facility, which is opening soon.
