ABOUT CANADA’S OLYMPIC BROADCAST MEDIA CONSORTIUM AND CTV

Canada’s Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium is a unique relationship.  Led by Canada’s top broadcaster, CTV with an 80% interest, along with Rogers Media Inc. with a 20% interest, the Consortium is providing unprecedented English, French and multilingual coverage and consumer choice on multiple platforms during the London 2012 Olympic Games. Official brands include CTV, TSN, RDS, RDS Info, Sportsnet, OMNI Television, OLN, V, ATN, CTVOlympics.ca, RDSolympiques.ca and select Rogers radio stations across Canada. In addition, select stations will air the London 2012 Paralympic Games from August 29 through September 9, 2012. The Consortium delivered the top 5, most-watched events in Canadian television history during its revolutionary coverage of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

THE ADVANCED SOLUTION

Advanced is proud to be a preferred provider of audiovisual solutions to CTV for its coverage of the London 2012 Summer Olympics.  Selected for our expertise and experience, both with the CTV/Bell Media and with large-format, “mission-critical” broadcast display projects, Advanced was honoured to be involved in enabling live TV coverage for millions of people to the biggest sporting event of the year.

Two impressive Orion videowalls were used, on location in the UK, to create an immersive environment for the network’s Olympic set.  Live coverage of the event was broadcast across Canada from July 27 through to August 12, 2012.  The large videowalls consisted of 2 – 7 x 3 display panels, joined together with ultra-thin bezels to provide bright, vibrant and seamless images.  Orion was chosen to provide the 42 total unit videowalls because of the its reputation for clear, crisp visual display technology.

As a specialist in handing the technical aspects of live and “mission-critical” audiovisual solutions and based on our long and successful history working with CTV on various other live broadcast s, including CP24 and the Marilyn Dennis Show, Advanced was well-positioned to support the network for this flagship installation.  An expert team of Advanced technicians were on-hand throughout the Olympics coverage to manage the installation of the videowalls and provide on-site support, as needed.  The set was equipped to deliver both English and French broadcasts to Canadians across the country.
